Two days ago, Kevin Hart revealed the first official look at our ‘Jumanji‘ cast. The movie, currently shooting in Hawai, stars Karen in the role of Ruby Roundhouse, as well as Dwayne Johnson, Nick Jonas and Jack Black. The sequel to the 1995 movie is set to be released in theatres on July 28, 2017.
DEADLINE: Karen Gillan has landed a major role in Sony’s remake of Jumanji, the Jake Kasdan-directed pic that toplines Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Nick Jonas. It’s the final piece of the casting puzzle for the pic, which now is set to kick off principal photography next month in Honolulu.
The Scotland-born Gillan will play Martha, ending what was a months-long search for the coveted role that involved some serious A-list talent. She meshed best with the cast and won out. It’s the latest big get for Gillan, the onetime Doctor Who regular and Selfie star who has scored film roles in the likes of Guardians Of The Galaxy and the upcoming The Circle.
Sony has set a July 28, 2017 release date for Jumanji, which Matt Tolmach is producing with William Teitler. Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner wrote the most recent version of the script, based on draft by original writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. It’s all based on the book by Chris Van Allsburg that became a 1995 movie starring Robin Williams that grossed $260 million globally.
Ted Field, Mike Weber, Kasdan, David Householter, Van Allsburg, Johnson and Dany Garcia are executive producing.
Karen Gillan was supposed to attend the Heroes & Villains Fan Fest in San Jose this weekend, but due to scheduling conflicts, she wasn’t able to attend the convention at all, as she announced on Twitter. But what great news for people who were supposed to see her this weekend – she did a fan Q&A directly via the convention’s Facebook page. She answered a whole bunch of questions, such as whether or not she would return to Doctor Who or what is her next big project. Check it out below:

A mysterious drifter named Paul and his dog Abbie make their way towards Mexico through the barren desert of the old west. In an attempt to shorten their journey they cut through the center of a large valley, landing themselves in the forgotten town of Denton, a place now dubbed by locals as a “valley of violence.” The once popular mining town is nearly abandoned, and is controlled by a brash group of misfits and nitwits—chief among them the seemingly untouchable Gilly, who is the troublemaking son of the town’s unforgiving Marshal. As tensions rise between Paul and Gilly, Denton’s remaining residents bear witness to an inevitable act of violence that starts a disastrous chain reaction, infecting the petty lives of all involved and quickly dragging the whole town into the bloody crosshairs of revenge.
